Ogden’s Monarch Opens!

Honored to be at the Monarch’s grand opening. Hats off to Thaine Fisher, his family, and team for propelling Ogden into the future. The Monarch is a collaborative environment where artists, creative businesses and makers of all types can connect, inspire and create together in the heart of Ogden’s Nine Rails Creative District.

Visual Art+Design Studios @ The Monarch

As a staunch supporter of an industrial co-working space in Ogden I was dis-heartened to learn of Ogden City’s decision to ‘pass’ on the maker space concept in The Monarch.

Imagine my delight when Weber State University announced that the BFA Program will be expanding to The Monarch with Visual Art & Design Studios.  Many of the elements of Union Industrial Co-Working have been lost over time but WSU off-campus studios lives on!

Ogden Maker Space May Live On

Original plans for Ogden’s maker space, “The Market” have resurfaced as part of the Nine Rails Creative District (#ninerailsogden).  The maker space will still be housed in the 90 year old parking structure of the iconic Bigelow Hotel, to be named The Monarch.

After a $14 million revamp The Monarch will be the centerpiece of a developing arts and cultural district downtown.  It is planned to house restaurant, retail, event space, creative studios, and The Market maker space.

According to Brandon Cooper, deputy director of Ogden City Community and Economic Development the makerspace proposed for Ogden will have 12 interconnected shops, including 3D printing, welding, textiles, fabrication, wood working, digital media and electronics.

Although Union Creative Agency and Business Consulting Group are no longer affiliated with the project we are keenly interested in its success.

Teaching business start up to the future leaders of Africa

Recently Bob had the opportunity to work with 20 collage age students from Mali, Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sudan at Chico State helping the students craft business based solutions to social and economic problems encountered in their home countries.

The students’ trips were paid by the U.S. State Department through the Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders.  After a month in Chico and the San Francisco Bay area the students with their leader, Chico State Professor Julie Indvik, traveled to the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City and then on to the University of Missouri.  The program was a great success and has been renewed for the next two years.
